Ben Clayton Biography

About the Author

A lifelong creator with a passion for Halloween and horror, I’ve dedicated my journey to exploring the eerie and macabre through art, storytelling, and hands-on craftsmanship. From an early age, I’ve found myself captivated by the haunting charm of Halloween. Perhaps fueled by growing up in a haunted house and inspired by some of the greatest special effects legends, including Rick Baker, Dick Smith, Kevin Yagher, Stan Winston, Tom Savini, Ve Neill, Greg Nicotero, Patrick Tatopoulos, Lon Chaney, and more recently, Anthony Kosar and Roy Wooley.

Challenging projects are my favorite, and I thrive on learning new materials and methods to bring my visions to life. Whether it’s sculpting, painting, sewing, molding, drawing, or experimenting with electronics and chemicals, I believe in using whatever tools and techniques a project demands. My first foray into special effects was trying to make my hair stand up with gum at age 4, which was less than successful, but it lit a spark that has never dimmed.

An enduring curiosity about anatomy has fueled much of my work, as understanding the structures beneath the surface allows me to craft realistic and compelling creations. I’m fascinated by the intricate interplay of bones, muscles, and tissues, and how this knowledge enhances my ability to sculpt and mold lifelike forms.

Without the internet in my early years, I relied on my resourcefulness and the inspiration of groundbreaking artists to learn and grow. Today, I take immense joy in pushing boundaries, crafting eerie Halloween installations, and creating horror-themed art that captures the imagination.

Beyond Halloween and horror, I am an author, artist, walking tour guide, and theorist. I’m passionate about exploring all areas of curiosity, from philosophy, theology, sociology, and psychology to physics, anthropology, literature, and art. Whether it’s through words, hands-on creation, or research, I strive to tell stories that engage, challenge, and transport people into the realms of the extraordinary.
